Question No: 50 ( Marks: 10 )
A family has 3 boys and 2 girls.
a) Find the number of ways they can sit in a row
b) How many ways are there if the boys and girls are each to sit together?
Solution
The five children can sit in the row : 5*4*3*2*1 = 5! = 120
There are two way we can distribute them according to there sex.
BBBGG or GGBBB
In each case boy can sit 3*2*1 = 3! = 6
Girls can sit = 2*1 = 2! = 2 way.
Thus altogether they can sit in 2*3!*2! = 2*6*2 = 24 ways
